The Patrick Henry Center for Individual Liberty serves as the only national organization devoted to promoting political courage and love of liberty as exemplified by Patrick Henry.   By assisting whistleblowers, promoting free speech, educating young and old about Henry, and preserving Patrick Henry historical sites, we uphold the legacy and principles that are the foundation of American liberty.  Please visit our “Programs” pages for more details on our important work.

Our Inspiration

Patrick Henry, famous for his ability to rouse citizens of all ranks with his exemplary oratory skills and courage in the face of oppressive government, is best remembered for his “give me liberty, or give me death” speech delivered at St. John’s Church in Richmond, VA, on March 23, 1775.  Soon after, he had the distinction of serving Virginia as her first elected governor, an office he held for five terms.

But one of his most important contributions to the founding of the United States of America was his steadfast opposition to the ratification until it included our precious Bill of Rights.  These first ten amendments clarify the rights – the inalienable rights – of every American citizen.

Patrick Henry has long been acknowledged as America’s best known symbol of free speech, a man known for sounding calls for freedom and alarms against state-sponsored tyranny.  He risked his life, reputation, and fortune to promote liberty and freedom.  He strongly fought for state’s rights and for a limited federal government.

The Center has been modeled after the life and philosophy of Patrick Henry, one of the greatest patriots in American History.  Jefferson was the “pen,” Washington the “sword,” but it was Patrick Henry who was the “voice” of the American Revolution.
